Day 1

How was our trip?  Glad you asked!

We took so many pictures I can't imagine not sharing them, sooooo....
you're going to get the play by play.

We got to the airport a little before 6 a.m. Saturday morning.  We stood in line for an hour before we were told our flight was canceled.  I do not endorse Spirit Airlines... not that you would fly with them, but if you've considered it- don't.  We were able to get on another flight at 6 p.m., get a rental car in Ft. Lauderdale, drive 2 hours, and arrive at our hotel on Islamorado around midnight.  We obviously didn't see a thing on the way down other than street lights, but we awoke to this:
For the first time, we found a perk of Trent's excessive work travel.  Hotel points allowed us to stay in nice hotels at no charge.  For a girl that grew up staying in motels where I would shower with shoes on (and have continued to have the same standard in my adult life), this was really nice.  Trent is a total hotel snob (rightly so since he spends 50% of his life in one), so he of course found fault,
but I was thrilled.

The average temps in the Keys this time of year is supposed to be around 78 degrees.  Not this week.  The warmest temp was 65 for a few hours one day, so we had to adjust our plans a bit.  There was no laying out by the water or snorkeling, but there was kayaking through the mangroves....
... and back country flats.  We were paddling through one foot of water & discovered poles with blocks on top.  Apparently the motorboats going through this area are killing of the seagrass.  The blocks encourage all the birds to lite and pooh,
which helps the grass to grow.
After a long day of paddling we enjoyed our balcony, our first seafood, some boats,
and our first beautiful sunset.
Stay tuned for Day 2 of our trip to the Keys!
