Day 2

Without further ado... we're onto day two.

Trent's #1 request for our trip south was to go deep sea fishing.
The wind wasn't cooperating with us, but we decided to go ahead & take the
plunge for fear of it getting worse.

Let me back track for a second... Hwy 1 is what takes you through the keys.  I didn't really process how narrow each key is & was very surprised to find that everything was literally right off the highway.  The longest roads that branch off only have enough space for about 5 modest houses.

So, we met Captain Charlie at his house.  It was the second one off the highway, but felt like it was miles from civilization.  It was a tiny bungalow that had a dock in place of a garage, steps from his backdoor.  It was really cool to have an "alley" of water surrounded by homes.
We hopped in his boat & waved at his
neighbors as we pulled out.
Thank goodness Captain let me borrow his London Fog... it was chilly.
Being surrounded by the beauty of the ocean made it all worth while.  I caught the first fish,
but Trent was reeling them in non-stop after that.

I feel a little bad about this, but this guy was our dinner that night-
 I know.

After the excursion we packed our bags & headed south.  Trent's hotel points earned us a room at La Concha on Key West.  What a treat!  (Note from their website: A National Historic Landmark in the heart of Key West’s Historic District, our legendary Key West hotel has been inspiring guests like Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams since opening in 1926. From the moment you step into our iconic hotel, you feel relaxed and in harmony with our island energy.)
